Room to Read
Room to Read is a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization that focuses on literacy and gender equality in education. Their programs include building schools and libraries, stocking those schools and libraries with books in the local language, and supporting girls through their secondary education when it is otherwise not possible.
From 2004 to 2006, NaNoWriMo gave 50% of its net profit from donations to Room to Read, raising over $43,300 and building seventeen libraries in southeast Asia, notably Cambodia and Laos [1].
