USA :: California :: South Bay is a California region in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In 2018 the Region decided to have their official mascot be the NaNoByte, a homage to the region's involvement in the tech industry.

Regional Facts

2010 the South Bay region collected the encouraged 3000 books for the Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive[1].

In 2012 the region won the Donation Derby, achieving the highest increase in average donation for League 1 regions.

The South Bay Region is also home to the tradaion of killing Cliff Brooks. The tradition started sometime before 2004.

Since about 2014 the Region has had their half-way party at the home of one of their writers. The mountain home serves as a home to several goats, chickens, llamas, an emu and dozens of exotic birds. It is an all day event.

In 2018 the ML for the year introduced several new awards for the region, including the ELMO (borrowed from NaNoBoston) for outstanding participation in the region. They also introduced the Fresh Ink Award to honor the most enthusiastic new comer to NaNoWriMo.
