What on earth is going on at NaNoWriMo HQ? Here's a high level summary compiled by an anonymous community member.
NaNoism
A NaNoism (also written Nanoism) is an error in a NaNoWriMo novel that is funny or awkward. The term appears to have begun in 2004, as the 2005 thread is referred to as "NaNoisms v2". Before NaNoWriMo 2006 Miri Mirror compiled a book of NaNoisms written by fellow Wrimos entitled I Hate Myself and Want to Die. It is available as a free ebook on Lulu.
This thread has lived in the I Hate Myself and Want to Die forum, later renamed NaNoWriMo Ate My Soul. It is one of the sticky posts at the top of the NaNoWriMo Ate My Soul forum.
Alternately, a NaNoism can refer to a term coined by the NaNoWriMo community that only fellow Wrimos will understand.
A term commonly seen in the NaNoism thread is "permapersimmons" or "permapermissions". The NaNoism is "permapersimmons". During the NaNo 2006 season Miri Mirror announced her intention of compiling more NaNoisms for another collection and stated that Wrimos could give permapermissions for all NaNoisms they post or only for the one in that post. Sure enough, on page four Naurien granted permapersimmons[1]. Although the mundane 'permapermissions' and the the more interesting 'permapersimmons' are still in use to this day, several wackier variants have been introduced, usually only connected by the letter 'p' (for example, permapineapples made an appearance on the 2011 forums).
The Script Frenzy equivalent was a Screnzyism and was introduced from NaNoWriMo. The thread for Screnzyisms was typically a sticky post in the Check-In Station forum.
