The NaNoWriMo Writing Marathon is a writing marathon fundraiser for the Office of Letters and Light. It was first held on 13 April 2013.

While the NaNoWriMo staff component of the marathon took place online via Twitter and Google+ hangouts, Wrimos all over the world met up in person to marathon their way through their novels.

Wrimos pledged to write for a certain number of hours during the marathon. When they did, they donated $13.10 per hour written (equivalent to 13.1 miles per half marathon) and received marathoner Web Badges for the occasion. Participants also used the #nanothon hashtag

The NaNoWriMo staff also appeared in Google+ livestreams at the top of every hour between 10am and 6pm Pacific Time, taking questions and talking about whatever was on their mind.

The NaNoWriMo Writing Marathon raised a total of $7074 that day, beating the original goal of $5000.

The Writing Marathon returned during NaNo 2013, with a goal of $50,000 dollars raised on November 9. NaNo HQ gave away hourly prizes for donors, such as Kindles, copies of software, and merchandise from the store. Regions hosted special events for the day to motivate Wrimos to write and donate. The marathon raised over $64,000 that day.

Camp NaNoWriMo 2014's Nanothon happened on April 12.
