Chris Angotti was the Chief Operating Officer at National Novel Writing Month. Before joining NaNoWriMo, he earned a master's degree in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University[1] and taught middle school and high school English in New York City[2]. He then entered the world of educational nonprofits and joined NaNo as Young Writers Program director in July 2010. Chris had known about NaNoWriMo as far back as 2001 but has never previously participated prior to joining the NaNoWriMo team.

After Lindsey Grant stepped down as NaNoWriMo program director after NaNoWriMo 2012, Chris took over as Director of Programs. He became the Chief Operating Officer in early 2015 until his departure in summer 2021.

When Chris was five, he wanted to be a game show host or an explorer. He also had a short-lived career as a rapper in fourth grade, which may fuel material for a future Script Frenzy. When he moved to Berkeley, he took a road trip that took him across fifteen states[2].

During Chris's early days at NaNoWriMo, there were two Chrises in the NaNoWriMo office, and the debate over how to differentiate between the two Chrises began. The (confusing) favorite was to call Chris Baty Chris A. because he was there first and to call Chris Angotti Chris B.
