While working at OLL she also taught English composition long-distance. Tupelo Hassman was the Office of Letters and Light's office manager (or Office Captain) until October 2011. She joined the OLL team in February 2010 after participating in NaNoWriMo since 2003 and assisting the shipping captain Bradford Earle in 2009. She has also served on the editorial board of the Young Writers Program editorial board since 2010.
