LiveJournal
LiveJournal is a blogging and social media platform. Many NaNoWriMo participants use LiveJournal to talk about NaNoWriMo.
History
LiveJournal was a highly popular blogging and social networking platform during the 2000s, which naturally led to many of its users who were also involved in NaNoWriMo bringing the discussion to the website. This was particularly effective in the pre-Drupal years, when the official website inevitably experienced server crashes in the first week of November due to traffic. Other events in the off months, such as JaNoWriMo and FebNoWriMo, were also based on LiveJournal, but typically did not last more than a couple of years.
LiveJournal experienced a decline in users in the late 2000s/early 2010s due to internal discord which alienated a portion of its userbase, as well as competition from new social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Most of the Nano discussion on LiveJournal is done within existing fan communities, not in Nano-specific communities.
LiveJournal's framework has been used by other sites, such as DreamWeaver and FenJournal, but none have a notable NaNoWriMo community.
