To complete NaNoWriMo's 50,000 word goal, one has to write 1,667 words a day - a pace which many find unbelievable or undoable. However, many published authors have written a whole novel in a month or write above that quota every day.
See also List of 50,000 Word Novels.
- In his memoir On Writing, Stephen King says he writes 2,000 words every day, even on the weekends and holidays. He also wrote The Running Man under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in a week.
- According to Prism of the Night: A Biography of Anne Rice, Anne Rice wrote Interview with the Vampire in five weeks - the book is 338 pages long.
- John Scalzi wrote 90% of his latest bestseller Lock In in November. He also mentioned a quota of 3,000 words in November and commented that most tended to make the final cut.
- Chuck Wendig finished the second Atlanta Burns book in 27 days, clocking in at 72k and also has mentioned that his daily quota is 2,000 words a weekday.
- Delilah S Dawson wrote Wicked Ever After plus a short story for a total of 61k in November.
- Marissa Meyer wrote Cinder and Scarlet, and started the third novel, Cress in November for a total of 150k.
- Catherynne M. Valente wrote The Labyrinth in eleven days.
- Rachel Aaron was already writing 2k a day, but went up to 10k with better planning.
- Lindsay Buroker has a daily quota of 10k.
- Hugh Howey wrote 80k of his Wool series during his first Nanowrimo.
- Dean Wesley Smith wrote 763k in one year ranging from 44k to 107k months.
- Kazuo Ishiguro wrote The Remains of the Day, a 245-page book, in four weeks.
- Barbara Cartland averaged 23 novels a year and could dictate 6-9k in a 2-3 hour session.
