==Communications to Participants==
Below is an example of how MLs shared information about the event with their regions, drawn from [https://forums.nanowrimo.org/t/global-write-in-crawl-nanowrimo-regional-discords-2020-inaugural-event/241015 the Raleigh-Durham, NC region's forum thread].
We’ve been working hard with MLs from around the country and the world to plan an amazing weekend event for all of our WriMos to participate in. We’ll be taking a tour of NaNoWriMo Regional Discord servers to write together, meet each other, and learn a little about everyone’s region. We’re taking that whole Day of Writing Everywhere principle to another level this year.
'''When:'''
This event will begin at 10am EST on Friday, November 6 and continue through 3am EST on Sunday, November 8. Which is a total of 40 hours of cross-regional writing and chatting.
'''Where:'''
This cross-regional event will take place on Discord across several servers. You can attend while NaNoRDU is hosting on our very own Discord server. To attend times when other regions are hosting, you’ll want to join the Global Write-In Crawl (GWIC) Discord server. This will have basic information about the event, the full schedule, and invitations to all the participating Discord Servers. You can join the GWIC Discord Server with this soon to be added link (which will only be active through November 8, 2020).
'''What:'''
Virtually travel the globe to meet writers from across the US and the world and share some writing time. You can attend as many or as few of the individual region’s write-ins as you like. You can also help NaNoRDU introduce the Raleigh-Durham area to others by posting in the #about-nanordu channel opening soon. You can also earn extra NaNoRDU “stickers” for attending these events by reporting in at the end of each stop and letting an ML know that you’re participating. (More details on how to do all of this coming soon.)
You’ll also be able to earn travel stamps and other digital flair during the event. You can find additional information on the central FAQ that the MLs planning the event have put together for everyone. (Link will be added shortly!)
'''When are we hosting?'''
NaNoRDU will be hosting writers from other participating regions on Friday, November 6 from 5pm to 7pm. This will take place on our NaNoRDU Discord server in the specially designated GWIC channels. (Event posted here so you can RSVP if you like. 8)
'''When will the NaNoRDU MLs be at the event with us?'''
While we haven’t finalized our plans yet, we’ll be participating in this write-in crawl as well, and we’ll let folks know which stops we plan to attend. We encourage you to share which you’ll be attending as well so folks can know when they’ll have a local buddy along for the trip.
'''What’s the full schedule?'''
The complete schedule of stops can be found further down thread here.

The Global Write-In Crawl (or GWIC) is a Wrimo-led event created by a group of Municipal Liaisons during NaNoWriMo 2020. It was created as a way for Wrimos to connect with others during the COVID-19 pandemic, as in-person write-ins were disallowed.

As 2020 was the first year of hosting the event, participation was limited to Wrimos affiliated with one of the participating regions so the event would not be overwhelming to organizers.

The write-in crawl took place on Discord from November 6 at 10:00 AM UTC-5 to November 8 at 3:00 AM UTC-5.
