Pantsing (also known as winging it) is the term Wrimos use refer to writing without an outline. While outlining before November first is allowed and even encouraged, some Wrimos prefer to start with only a vague idea or even nothing altogether. This allows them to write whatever comes to their mind without regard to what the outline says or even if it makes sense.

While some pantsers truly pants their way through the novel, some pantsers do outline as they go along. They may outline daily, weekly, or even outlining the next scene. However, these outlines, if any are made, are not to be absolutely followed, and a better idea is always welcomed.

Pantsers are prone to dares, adoptables, and other NaNoWriMo tributes such as Mr. Ian Woon.
